Bhubaneswar: A 28-year-old businessman drowned while bathing in Devi river in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district today.

The incident took place at Machhagaon under Balikuda police limits in Jagatsinghpur.

The deceased has been identified as Sangram Parida of the locality. Sangarm was running his business in Cuttack city.

As per reports, Sangarm, who was also a cricket enthusiast, had come to his native place two days ago to represent his village cricket team in a tournament at a nearby village.

Sangarm along with three other youths of the village went to the Devi river for bathing in the morning. The young businessman went missing in the river after he ventured into the deep water, reports said.

A few local fishermen initially conducted a search to trace him but failed. On being informed, the Fire Brigade personnel and team of the Balikuda police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Sangram was rescued after an hour and rushed to Balikuda Community Health Centre (CHC). However, he was declared dead by the doctors.

The police seized the body and sent it to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Jagatsinghpur for postmortem after registering a case on unnatural death in this regard.
