Cuttack: A 30-year-old youth was safely rescued after climbing atop a 33kV power transmission tower and threatening to jump in the Chauliaganj police station area of Cuttack on Tuesday.
The youth, identified as Naresh Marandi, had climbed the tower at Kumbharmunda, triggering panic among locals.

Swift action by Fire personnel prevents mishap
Upon receiving information, the Fire Services department launched a large-scale rescue operation following all safety protocols.
As part of the operation, one fire officer climbed the tower to engage with the man, while another team remained stationed below holding a safety net as a precautionary measure. After prolonged counselling and persuasion, Marandi agreed to come down.

Two fire personnel then helped him wear safety gear and carefully brought him down from the height of around 50 feet without any untoward incident. After the rescue, Marandi was found to be in a stable condition, though he appeared distressed.
Authorities are currently trying to ascertain the reasons behind his extreme step. He has been handed over to the police for further inquiry.
The successful rescue without any injuries brought relief and a sense of appreciation among local residents, who gathered at the spot during the tense operation.
