Bhubaneswar: Despite cleanliness drive and public awareness programmes, Odisha registered poor performance in terms of cleanliness and sanitation.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the state's performance in cleanliness and sanitation sector, Union Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister S.S. Ahluwalia during his visit to Odisha on Friday, said that Odisha ranks third in list from the bottom.

He said that 90 lakh toilets will be constructed in Odisha. However, it is not possible to meet the deadline December 31, 2018 as the progress of work is very slow.

Ahluwalia said that 40 lakh toilets have been constructed in the state so far and 3,000 is being constructed per day.

During Odisha visit, the union minister made assessment of use of and condition of toilets and drinking water project at Angarpada village under Jatni block in Khordha district yesterday. He discussed with the locals and reviewed the condition of the toilets.
