Odisha's Nandankanan welcomes wild buffalo calf

Bhubaneswar: A new member was added to Nandankanan Zoological Park with birth of a wild buffalo calf here on Friday.

Both mother Indian wild buffalo and her newborn are in good condition. With birth of a baby wild buffalo, the total number of wild buffaloes rose to four including two male and one female.

A pair of wild buffaloes was brought to Nandankanan from ChattBir Zoo in Punjab on May 26, 2015 under animal exchange programme. In June 2015, the couple had delivered a baby (female calf), who died of Pneumonia just after one year on July 4, 2016.

Later, another calf (male) was born on July 13, 2016.

Notably, the campus of Nandankanan will be expanded featuring lion, elephant and bear safaris along with tiger safari. The zoological park will be built in 1,100 hectare area.
