Bhawanipatna: A pregnant woman had to pay with her life for opposing husband to consume alcohol on Holi in Odisha’s Kalahandi district yesterday.

As per reports, the accused identified as Kalia Bisi kicked his pregnant wife in her stomach as she prevented him to go out for Holi revelry again.

Like others, Kalia too had gone to celebrate the festival of colours with his friends and relatives. After returning to home at Kumbharpada village under Town Police limits here, he took bath and had lunch. After a while, he got a call from other friends asking him to join them to celebrate the occasion.

However, his wife Pooja Bisi (35) was not in favour of her husband going out again as she suspected that he would booze with his friends. While she prevented him from venturing out, the couple had an altercation owing which the enraged husband kicked his wife in her abdominal region.

The woman reportedly suffered hemorrhage resulting in heavy blood loss. Subsequently, the young woman died due to injury.

Late in the night, the man took his dead wife’s body to dispose off. He buried the body on the outskirts of the village so that no one would come to know about it. However, a panicked Kalia surrendered before the local police today and confessed to have commited the crime.

The officials rushed to the spot and exhumed the body, which was later sent to District Headquarters Hospital here for post-mortem.

Kalia has been arrested and will be produced before a court tomorrow, sources added.
