Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in Dharmasala area of Jajpur district after a person allegedly drove his SUV into a rally of BJD MLA Pranab Kumar Balabantaray ahead of the last phase polls in Odisha today.

The incident took place while Balabantaray was leading a bike rally on National Highway (NH)-53 near Osara village under Dharmasala police limits around the noon.

One Dillip Kumar Behera allegedly drove his SUV (Scorpio) into the rally. A supporter of the BJD MLA reportedly fell down and sustained fractures in his leg after the SUV hit his bike.

At least four motorcycles were also damaged in the incident.

Angered over the incident, some supporters of Balabantaray later vandalised Behera’s office, located near Mandia Square of Dharmasala.

On being informed, Jajpur district Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agrawal and SDPO Sanjay Patnaik reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.

Notably, six Lok Sabha and 42 Assembly seats in Odisha will go for voting in the last phase of the twin polls on June 1.
