Malkangiri: Many instances of pregnant women being carried on cot to hospital by their kin in Odisha came to fore in the recent past. However, Sarigeta village under Chitrakonda block in Malkangiri district witnessed a scene of a doctor carrying a woman on a cot for eight km to make her reach hospital, an incident restoring faith on doctors.

On being informed about the pregnant woman complaining of labour pain, Omkar Hota, doctor at Paplur hospital here, rushed to the village, which lacks proper road connectivity, with an attendant.

Realising that the woman has suffered excess blood loss, the doctor carried out the delivery process at the village.

Post delivery, it was decided to take her to the hospital as her condition started deteriorating.

After villagers refused to carry the woman to the hospital, doctor Hota and her husband carried her on a cot for eight km. The condition of the woman and the newborn was stated to be stable after treatment at the hospital.
