Bhubaneswar: Hot and humid weather conditions continued to prevail in Odisha capital on Saturday, with the city recording extremely high humidity levels early in the morning, adding to residents' discomfort.

Humidity peaks at 87% as Bhubaneswar faces oppressive weather

According to the latest weather updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a temperature of 30.8 degrees Celsius at 5.30 am, accompanied by 87 per cent humidity. The high moisture content in the air pushed the heat index—a measure of how hot it feels when humidity is factored in—to 43 degrees Celsius.

As the day progressed, conditions became more oppressive. At 8.30 am, the temperature rose to 33 degrees Celsius, while humidity remained high at 77 per cent. The heat index further climbed to 47 degrees Celsius, indicating severe discomfort and heat stress risks for residents.

The IMD has advised people to take precautions against the prevailing weather conditions. Residents have been urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, wear light and breathable clothing, and minimise outdoor activities during peak daytime hours.

Bhubaneswar had recorded a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius on Friday, reflecting the continuing spell of intense summer heat across the region.

According to the IMD forecast, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist in Bhubaneswar over the coming days, with no significant relief from humidity expected until at least June 10.

The weather department continues to monitor the situation and has urged citizens to follow heat-safety guidelines as the city remains under the grip of sultry conditions.
