Nabarangpur: A Class 8 student was found hanging inside a school hostel in Umerkote locality of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Thursday, triggering shock and concern in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Prashant Bhatra (12), son of Parameswar Bhatra of Badakumari village. He was studying in Class 8 at Bhamini Ashram School under Umerkote block.

Student had recently returned to hostel

According to reports, Prashant had returned to the hostel from his home just two days prior to the incident. He was found hanging inside the hostel premises on Thursday under circumstances that are yet to be determined.

Police launch probe; cause of death remains unclear

Upon receiving information, police reached the spot, recovered the body and initiated an investigation into the incident. The exact cause of death remains unclear, and officials are probing all possible angles.

Questions raised over student safety and supervision

The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety and monitoring of students in residential school hostels. Locals questioned how such an incident could occur without the knowledge of the school authorities, including the headmaster and hostel warden.
