According to reports, passersby noticed a bag and a pair of slippers lying unattended on the bridge and informed the police. Personnel from Barang Police Station and the Fire Services Department reached the spot and began a search operation in the river.

The rescue team subsequently recovered the woman's body from the Kathajodi. The body has been sent to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for post-mortem.
