Kutra (Sundargarh): A dramatic incident unfolded in Odisha's Sundargarh district on Sunday night when a youth allegedly climbed a high-voltage electricity pole and created a commotion after a dispute with his girlfriend.

The incident occurred in the Budakata area under Kutra block, triggering panic and tension among local residents for several hours.

According to reports, the youth, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, climbed the electricity pole at around 10 pm on Sunday and began shouting and crying loudly. Hearing the commotion, villagers rushed to the spot. Upon seeing the crowd, the youth demanded that his girlfriend be brought to the location immediately. He reportedly threatened to endanger his life if his demand was not met.

Concerned about the seriousness of the situation, locals informed the police and fire services. Soon, police personnel and firefighters reached the spot and made repeated attempts to persuade the youth to come down safely. However, their initial efforts proved unsuccessful.

As the situation became increasingly complicated, police contacted the youth's girlfriend and requested her presence at the scene. After prolonged counselling by the girlfriend, family members and police officials, the youth finally agreed to descend from the pole.

The high-voltage drama, which lasted for nearly four hours, came to an end at around 2 am when the youth was safely brought down from the electricity pole without any injuries.

The incident has become a major talking point in the locality, with many expressing concern over the dangerous act of climbing a high-voltage power structure and risking lives. Police have launched a further investigation into the matter.
