Balugaon: A pall of gloom descended on Kesapur village in Khordha district’s Banapur area after a father and son allegedly died by suicide over a debt-related issue.

According to reports, a 70-year-old man from Kesapur village under Banapur police limits died by suicide on Saturday after jumping in front of a train. On learning about his father’s death, his 30-year-old son allegedly consumed poison.
The son was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed during treatment.

Villagers said the son had been staying away from the village and had returned home two days ago. After learning his father had borrowed a large sum of money, an argument reportedly broke out between them.

Distressed over the situation, the elderly man is said to have taken the extreme step.

Following the incident, Banapur police sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.

The deaths have left the village in shock, with locals mourning the tragic loss. The last rites of the father and son were performed on Saturday afternoon.
