Bhubaneswar: All Educational institutes in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district will remain closed for 4 days starting April 20 in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions in some parts of the state.

Mayurbhanj Collector Hema Kanta Say issued an order in this regard today.

As per the order, all government, government-aided and private schools as well as colleges in Mayurbhanj will remain closed from April 20 to 23 amid the prevailing hot and humid conditions.

The supplementary examinations of Class-V and Class-VIII will be conducted from 7 am to 9 am. Besides, the readmission process in the schools will continue without any disruption, said Mayurbhanj District Education Officer (DEO) Purna Chandra Sethi.

As per reports, at least seven inmates of a government-run residential school at Kuliana in Mayurbhanj fell ill due to the hot and humid conditions today.

The girls reportedly complained of uneasiness in the afternoon and they were immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Chandua. They were later shifted to PRM Medical College and Hospital at Baripada, reports said.

As per the IMD prediction, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in several districts of Odisha including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Boudh, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda till April 23.

Besides, many places across the state may witness hot and humid conditions till April 24, said the IMD.
