Balangir: In a significant judgment, an Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) in Balangir district has sentenced Tikachand Bag to life imprisonment for murdering his elder brother in a 2022 case. 

The verdict was pronounced on Thursday after examining evidence and witness testimonies presented during the trial.

Crime triggered by family dispute

The incident took place in Kandei village under Turekela police limits. According to case details, Tikachand Bag got into a heated argument with his elder brother, Phulaprasad Bag, near the Arjuni riverbank over a family dispute.

In a fit of rage, Tikachand attacked his brother with a stone, leading to his death. He later dumped the body in the river in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Police investigation and evidence

Turekela police registered a case and launched an investigation, collecting crucial evidence and presenting it before the court. During the trial, testimonies from 18 witnesses played a key role in establishing the accused’s guilt.

Life sentence and fine imposed

Based on the evidence, the court awarded life imprisonment to the convict along with a fine of Rs 25,000. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.
