Bhubaneswar: A moderate earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck Odisha's Koraput district late on Saturday night, causing panic among residents across several areas. The tremor occurred at around 11:31 PM at a depth of 5 km.
According to reports, the quake was felt in Sunabeda, Semiliguda, Pottangi, Nandapur, Damanjodi, Lamtaput, Jeypore and Baipariguda. Residents said that buildings and household items shook for a few seconds.
Eyewitnesses said a loud rumbling sound accompanied the tremors. Many rushed out of their homes as a precaution.
The impact of the earthquake was not limited to Odisha. Tremors were also experienced in parts of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, including Araku Valley, Paderu, Pedabayalu and Hukumpeta.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or major damage.
