Sambalpur: A woman and her daughter were allegedly beaten to death in the Giripali area under the Sasan Police limits in Odisha's Sambalpur district last night.

The deceased have been identified as Urukuli Patra (60) and her daughter Nilima (35).

According to preliminary information, the two women were sleeping outside their house due to the heat wave when a group of youths allegedly attacked them. The assailants used a motorcycle chain crank to assault the victims, leading to their deaths on the spot.

The murders are suspected to be linked to a previous enmity. The victims reportedly had no close relatives.

Police have launched an investigation into the double murder. A scientific team has also reached the scene to assist in the probe and collect evidence. Further details are awaited.
