Odisha: CBI arrests MCL official for taking Rs 5,000 bribe

Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested an official of the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on charges of taking Rs 5,000 as bribe from an employee of the public sector enterprise.

According to the CBI, Security Inspector of MCL at Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda, Banshi Ram, had sought a bribe of Rs 5,000 from an employee of the public sector enterprise to allot Sunday duty on rotational basis.

The employee had lodged a complaint in this regard with the CBI. Subsequently, a trap was laid and the Security Inspector was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 as bribe, said the CBI.

The accused official has been arrested and he would be produced in the court on Friday. A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation on the matter is underway, added the central agency.
