Bhubaneswar: A Class 11 student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Odisha’s Kandhamal district was found hanging at the hostel on Monday.

Th deceased has been identified as Gokul Kanhar of Teteripali village under Phiringia block in Kandhamal.

As per reports, Gokul was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the school hostel in the afternoon.

His friends immediately informed the incident to the school authorities. Gokul was declared dead at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Phulbani.

Phulbani Sadar police have registered a case in this regard on the basis of a complaint lodged by the school authorities.

Deceased’s parents, meanwhile, alleged that he had been mentally tortured by the teachers. “The teachers may have killed my son and hanged the body to give the incident a suicide angle,” said Suresh Kanhar, the father of the deceased student.

School principal Suresh Kumar Sahu said they have urged the police to conduct a probe and find out the exact reason behind the student’s death.
