Bhubaneswar: An elderly man in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district has reportedly resorted to begging due to non-payment of old-age pension for the last three months.

Daitari Bhatra (70) of Moosapala village of Manigaon panchayat under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur has been seeking alms in the locality for the last few days.

Daitari, who is suffering from blurred vision, is being assisted by his wife for moving from one place to other for begging. The couple often visit door-to-door amid the prevailing hot and humid weather, reports said.

“The authorities have not provided the pension for last three months. They are only providing me 10 kg rice in a month. Both of my children are mentally-challenged and we do not have any other source of income. We are now surviving by seeking alms from the villagers,” said Daitari.

The locals, meanwhile, urged the administration to look into the issue and take immediate steps for providing pension to the elderly man.
