Bhubaneswar: A man was found hanging at the Collector’s office in Odisha’s Kendrapara district today.

The deceased has been identified as Srichandan Das of Raytunidi village under Derabish block in Kendrapara. However, he was staying in a rented accommodation in Basulei area of Kendrapara town.

Das was found hanging from the railing of a staircase at the Collector’s office in the afternoon.

On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the body before sending it for postmortem. The cops have also launched a probe into the incident.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Das died by suicide by hanging himself from the railing of the staircase with the help of a cotton towel.

Sources, meanwhile, claimed that Das was under severe mental pressure over some issues related to his landed properties. He had reportedly approached the Sub-Collector’s office several times for resolution of the issues.

“Das had approached the officials concerned several times for resolution of the issues. However, no one did listen to his grievances. He was forced to take the extreme step due to repeated harassment by the officials,” alleged BJP leader Gitanjali Sethi.

Kendrapara Collector Raghuram R. Iyer said the police have been asked to conduct a thorough probe into the incident.
