Odisha reels under intense heat as mercury crosses 42 Degree C at 5 places

Bhubaneswar: Large parts of Odisha continued to reel under intense heat on Sunday as the maximum temperature crossed 40 Degree Celsius at 14 places across the state.

Western Odisha town of Jharsuguda recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43.3 Degree C in the state, followed by Titilagarh at 43 Degree C, Sonepur at 42.3 Degree C, and Bhawanipatna and Sambalpur at 42 Degree C.

As per the IMD data, the maximum temperature was 41.5 Degree C at Sundargarh, Balangir and Rourkela; 41.1 Degree C at Angul; and 41 Degree C at Hirakud and Nuapada.

 Three places--Talcher, Phulbani, and Boudh--recorded the maximum temperature between 40 Degree C and 41 Degree C.

The capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded the maximum temperature of 36.6 Degree C and the Silver City of Cuttack recorded 35.8 Degree C.

 Several districts in Odisha including Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi are likely to witness heatwave conditions between April 21 and 24, said the IMD regional centre here.

Besides, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail across many other districts including Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur till April 24.

According to the IMD, some places in districts like Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur may witness light to moderate rain or thunderstorm till April 26.
