Bhubaneswar: The state government will establish the Directorate of Archaeology for better management and preservation of ancient temples and monuments in Odisha.
The state Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, today approved a proposal in this regard.
The state Cabinet has approved proposals for setting up of a separate Directorate of Archaeology, restructuring of Archaeological Curator Service and formulation of cadre rule for better management, protection and preservation of archaeological elements, including ancient temples and monuments, in Odisha, said Chief Secretary Anu Garg.
The establishment of the directorate will lead to proper protection of archaeological elements in the state. Besides, the move is likely to promote research activities, she added.
The state government has formulated the Odisha Archaeological Curator Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2026 after due consultation with the Law and Finance Departments, said the Chief Secretary.
