Bhubaneswar: A person was killed in a blast at a black stone quarry in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today.

The explosion took place at the quarry, located at Kastipal village under Nihal Prasad police limits, in the afternoon.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.

The cops, meanwhile, revealed that the stone quarry was operating after obtaining the approval from the authorities. Besides, it possessed a blasting licence, they said.

“A blast took place at a black stone quarry at Kastipal village under Nihal Prasad police limits on Sunday. There is information about the death of a person in the incident. Preliminary investigation suggests that the black stone quarry was operating legally and it also possessed a blasting licence. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” said the Dhenkanal Police in a statement.
