Bhubaneswar: A day after the body of a woman medical student was recovered from the Kathajodi River near Trisulia Bridge in Cuttack, her family has alleged that she was murdered by her boyfriend and another woman following a dispute in their relationship.

The deceased was identified as Chandrika Hembram, 29, a third-year MBBS student of Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore. She hailed from Raidandia village under Udala police limits in Mayurbhanj district.

According to Chandrika's family, she was in a long-term relationship with Bhimsen Prasad Tudu. The two had been planning to marry in 2027. However, the relationship allegedly deteriorated after another woman, identified as Swati, entered Bhimsen's life.

Family members claimed that frequent disputes arose between the couple after the incident. They also alleged that Chandrika was harassed by Bhimsen. Chandrika's mother and brother have accused Bhimsen and Swati of murdering her and disposing of her body.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine whether the death was a case of suicide or murder.
