Bhubaneswar: The administration in Odisha’s Puri district has announced temporary closure of schools in view of the prevailing hot and humid conditions across the state.
All government, government-aided and private schools, having classes from Sishu Vatika to Class XII, will remain closed from April 21 to 23, said an order issued by the Puri district administration on Monday.
However, supplementary examinations for Class V and Class VIII will be conducted as per the schedule issued by the OSEPA, read the order.
Headmasters of the concerned schools have been asked to ensure adequate drinking water, ORS, first-aid, ventilation and other arrangements for the safety and security of the examinees.
“Admissions, administrative functions, census/SIR duty and other essential school activities shall continue as usual during this period. Teaching and non-teaching staff shall attend schools as per the existing instructions,” added the order.
Earlier, the Collectors of several districts in Odisha including Cuttack, Ganjam, Deogarh, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir, and Nuapada had announced closure of educational institutes amid heatwave alert by the IMD.
As per the IMD prediction, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail across Odisha till April 25.
Several districts including Jharsuguda and Balangir may witness heatwave conditions in next few days, said the IMD.
