Ganjam: Amid intensifying heatwave conditions, the district administration in Ganjam has announced the closure of all schools for three days, raising concerns over student safety.

According to officials, all schools in the district will remain closed from April 21 to April 23 due to the soaring temperatures. The decision has been taken as the prevailing heatwave continues to pose health risks, particularly for children.

Despite the closure of schools, examinations will be conducted as per the guidelines of OSEPA. Authorities have directed schools to ensure necessary arrangements at examination centres, including the availability of drinking water, ORS (oral rehydration solution), and mandatory first-aid facilities to tackle heat-related emergencies.

The administration has also clarified that student enrolment activities will continue during the closure period.

Officials said the move is a precautionary step to safeguard students as temperatures continue to rise sharply across the district.

Yesterday, 14 places of Odisha recorded 40 degrees Celsius or above. Jharsuguda was the hottest at 43.3 degrees Celsius.
