Subarnapur: As the State continues to grapple with intense heatwave conditions, a school teacher allegedly died due to sunstroke after returning home from census duty in Odisha’s Subarnapur district. The deceased has been identified as Banshidhar Bhoi, a resident of Bomraj village in the district.

According to reports, Bhoi had been assigned census-related house enumeration work in Sunapali village. After completing the official duty and returning home, he suddenly complained of uneasiness and deteriorating health. Concerned family members immediately rushed him to the Birmaharajpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for medical treatment.

Despite efforts by doctors, he died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Kin allege extreme heat exposure as cause of death

Following the sudden, unexpected demise, the deceased teacher’s wife alleged that her husband died due to extreme heat exposure and severe weather conditions while carrying out government duty. The allegation has raised concerns over the working conditions of field staff engaged in outdoor assignments amid rising temperatures.

Police have recovered the body and initiated an investigation into the incident. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the exact cause of death will be known after the medical report is released, official sources said.

The tragedy highlights serious health risks posed by prolonged exposure to intense heat.
