More Odisha districts shut schools temporarily amid heatwave

Sambalpur/Koraput/Kendrapara: In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, district administrations in several parts of Odisha have announced the temporary suspension of school classes.

The Sundargarh district administration on Wednesday ordered the closure of all schools, from Class I to Class XII, including private institutions, from April 23 to April 27.

Similarly, authorities in Kendrapara and Koraput districts have announced the closure of schools from April 23 to April 25.

The Sambalpur district administration has also directed schools to remain closed from April 23 to April 27.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, at least 18 locations across the state recorded temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or above on Tuesday. Jharsuguda was the hottest at 43.6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the state’s Revenue and Disaster Management Department has decided to suspend census-related activities during peak heat hours. As per the directive, fieldwork will remain halted between 11 am and 3 pm to protect staff from extreme weather conditions.
