Jharsuguda: Odisha Vigilance sleuths have arrested a staff of the district headquarters hospital in Jharsuguda on charges of bribery today. The accused was identified as Anit Kumar Guru, Section Officer, O/o CDM & PHO (Jharsuguda). He was caught red-handed while demanding and taking bribe  Rs.2,500/- from teacher of a GNM (General Nursing Midwifery) Training School of the district to process  application for allowing GNM students at PHC/CHC level for practical training in the current session 2026-27.

Vigilance trap laid on basis of past allegations

As per reports, there were past allegations that Guru was repeatedly harassing nursing schools  of the district, demanding bribes to process such applications. When the teacher of the Training School requested him for attachment at PHC/CHC level for practical training of their students, he allegedly demanded bribe Rs 2,500/.

Angered by the harassment and unwilling to pay the demanded bribe, the complainant alerted the vigilance authorities. Upon receiving the information, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Guru while taking the demanded bribe. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered, the anti-corruption bureau informed.

Official sources also informed that following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations connected to the accused. A case has been registered and further probe is underway.
